Note #01: This project only covers the Zelda games from The Legend of Zelda NES to The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The other games from after The Wind Waker to Breath of the Wild are still being worked on.
Note #02: This is NOT a timeline theory about the official Zelda games or a re-organization of the Hyrule Historia timeline. This is a rewriting of The Legend of Zelda games to form a more cohesive and invested timeline experience. Creative liberties were taken where needed to make things make more sense than they do officially so do not bang your head against a wall wondering why things are different.
Note #03: Since this timeline is a rewrite of The Legend of Zelda games, some plot elements might be changed around or cut entirely depending on what conflicts arose during the writing process when putting the games together in a linear timeline. The goal was to make the rewritten lore as easy as possible to follow without a lot of convoluted split timelines, end game deaths, parallel realities, and other complicated problems.
Note #04: This project was made entirely for fun, and I encourage you to go into it with an open mind. If you are married to the ideas present in Hyrule Historia or only like what is already officially in the Zelda games that we presently have and do not enjoy imagining other possibilities and outcomes, then this is not the project for you. But if you do enjoy imagining, theorizing, creativity, and writing then you should definitely read on! I am only adding this part in here that way I can avoid having angry readers coming to me complaining about how I failed to strictly follow the ideas presented in HH or stick to every single beat that was present in the Zelda games as they officially exist. Remember, this is all for fun.
Zelda 1: The Legend of Zelda 1, Zelda Game Watch, and The Legend of Zelda 8321 – Hyrule is born.
The world is shrouded in darkness, chaos, and is without form. Light, space, and life is crafted bringing about planets and Hyrule is eventually born. Eons passes and the Triforce becomes a legend amongst the citizens of Hyrule. At this time, it seems that only the Royal Family knows of the Triforce existing. At some point, for the first time, an army led by Ganon attacks Hyrule. Ganon manages to discover that the Triforce of Power resides directly within Hyrule, and it is revealed that it was not just the Royal Family that had knowledge of the Triforce. Princess Zelda, having knowledge of the Triforce, fragments the Triforce of Wisdom in a bid to keep the Triforce of Wisdom out of Ganon’s hands. She orders Impa, her nursemaid to seek out a hero to fight Ganon. Ganon wrecks Hyrule in his conquest and the citizens either flee the land or go into hiding. Hyrule ends up desolate. This is known as the First Siege of Hyrule. Impa goes on the run and attempts to fulfill Princess Zelda’s request. Eventually she finds Link. Ganon learns that Princess Zelda has fragmented and scattered the Triforce of Wisdom. Furious about what she has done, Ganon casts a curse upon Zelda and imprisons her. He then sends a league of eight dark dragons out to search for the fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom. Link enters the presently infant land of Hyrule and finds it deserted except for a few people who have remained behind in hiding. He finds some citizens hiding out in caves who give him guidance on his quest. In his quest to recover the Triforce of Wisdom, Link regularly crosses paths with the eight dark dragons that were sent out by Ganon. The eight dark dragons serve as mini bosses in the eight dungeons. Link overcomes all eight dungeons, defeating the dark dragons, and takes up the Magical Sword in hand, defeating Ganon in his Castle. The curse is broken on Zelda, and she is freed by Link. Peace temporarily returns to the land of Hyrule. The Triforce of Wisdom and the Triforce of Power are then safe at this time. While the main game is based on The Legend of Zelda NES & Zelda Game Watch, a challenge sub-game based on The Legend of Zelda 8321 can be accessed in this title as well which sees the player running through four cave dungeons to get the best time.
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link – Hyrule expands and the Ultimate Triforce is revealed.
Several years pass by since Ganon’s defeat at the hands of Link. The land of Hyrule expands as citizens some citizens return and rebuild while others continue building their lives in the lands that they fled to. Eventually Link, who is now sixteen years old, notices an appearance of a mark on the back of his hand. Impa notices the mark on the back of Link’s hand and reveals to him that there is another Triforce. She tells Link that the King of Hyrule, King Revan, had hidden the Triforce of Courage in the sealed Great Palace in order to keep it from evil’s reach. Impa states that the King of Hyrule passed away and his son, Prince Quinn, searched far and wide for the Triforce of Courage. However, the king had only revealed the location of the third piece to his daughter, Princess Zelda. Prince Quinn asks Princess Zelda time and time again about the location of the missing Triforce, but she refuses to tell him. Becoming desperate, Prince Quinn utilizes the power of a dark magician named Dengrasel to try and force his sister to reveal the location of the Triforce of Courage. Princess Zelda manages to repel the attempts on her mind which enrages Dengrasel who then casts a powerful spell which forces her into a deep sleep. Prince Quinn is alarmed by this, but Dengrasel vanishes before he can act. Prince Quinn, feeling intense guilt, orders for the unconscious Princess Zelda to be transported to the Northern Palace where she will be cared for and looked after. Impa tells Link that the only way for Princess Zelda to be awakened from her slumber is to use six crystals to open the seal on the Great Palace, collect the Triforce of Courage, and unite it with the other two Triforce in order to break the curse. Unbeknownst to the land of Hyrule, Ganon’s minions have been regrouping in the shadows, determined to resurrect their wicked leader. The minions believe that by mixing the blood of Link with Ganon’s ashes, their dark lord could be brought back to life. They begin to now flood the expanded lands of Hyrule in order to hunt down Link and kill him. Link fights against Ganon’s reinvigorated forces and unlocks the seal on the Great Palace. Upon obtaining the Triforce of Courage, Link heads to the Northern Palace. However, upon entering the Northern Palace, Link finds the place ransacked and slain caretakers. Reaching the inner rooms of the Northern Palace, Link comes face to face with Dengrasel who turns out to be one of Ganon’s subordinates. Dengrasel battles Link with the hopes of killing the hero and using his blood to revive his master. However, Link prevails and Dengrasel is defeated. Link then takes the Triforce of Courage and unites it with the other two Triforce, creating the Ultimate Triforce. Using the Ultimate Triforce, Link wishes for the curse on Princess Zelda to be broken and she awakens. Link becomes the Hero of Legend.
Zelda 3: The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past & BS Zelda – The Sacred Realm is discovered.
Years pass and the stories of Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 become legend. The Hero of Legend passes away along with the first Princess Zelda and her brother Prince Quinn who died as King Quinn. In these years, a band of wicked thieves learn of Ganon and how he was defeated. Upon discovering the preserved ashes of the evil king, the thieves do some sleuthing and realize that Ganon can be revived with the blood of anyone who has a connection to the Triforce. The thieves become corrupted by the urn which holds Ganon’s ashes and become soldiers of malice. They kidnap a member of the Royal Family and sacrifice them to revive Ganon. Ganon is revived with a human form and is dubbed Ganondorf. The thieves worship him as their dark lord and Ganondorf, determined to still obtain the power of the Ultimate Triforce, leads a campaign which opens the gateway to the Sacred Realm. Seeing his followers as nothing more than a tool, Ganondorf slaughters them as he claims the Ultimate Triforce for himself. Upon claiming the Ultimate Triforce for himself, Ganondorf is transformed back into his original form, Ganon. Following his obtainment of the Ultimate Triforce, dark power begins to flow forth from the Sacred Realm as it had been corrupted by evil. People were lured into the Sacred Realm, now the Dark World, by this evil and were never heard from again. As a result of these problems, the present King of Hyrule, King Matheo, orders the seven sages of the land to seal the entrance to the Sacred Realm. However, the task was not easy. A bloody battle ensued as Ganon’s reconstructed army poured forth into the Light World, charging down to lay siege to Hyrule Castle. The Knights of Hyrule valiantly defended the sages during this great battle against evil, allowing the sages to seal the entrance which resulted in Ganon being trapped within the Dark World. Many knights died in the chaos and the war went on to become known as the imprisoning war. In this first part of the game, the player takes control of a Hyrulean Knight named Aziel who fights from Hyrule Castle up to the peaks of Death Mountain where they perish in a bid to defend the sages. This segment of the game would be short and would function like the story of Halo Reach. This marks the end of the First Imprisoning War. Once Ganon had been sealed in the Dark World, Hyrule was at peace for several centuries and King Matheo passed away during this time. Eventually however some centuries later, unexplained catastrophes begin to happen about Hyrule. Pestilence and drought ravaged the land. The new King of Hyrule, King Titus, theorizes that the recent disasters that have overcome the land of Hyrule may be somehow linked to the Sages’ seal. The King goes to investigate the seal but finds nothing wrong with it. Desperate for answers, he begins to offer rewards for anyone who could solve the problems that Hyrule was facing.
After being trapped in the dark world for several centuries, Ganon learns of a way to create an alter ego in the Light World known as Agahnim. This alter ego of his answers the call of King Titus and brings resolve to Hyrule’s problems using magic of wild wonder. As a reward, King Titus grants Agahnim the position of chief adviser to the throne and the people of Hyrule hail him a hero. Peace seemingly returns to Hyrule once more. However not before long, Agahnim began to influence the government of Hyrule and abuse the power of the position that he had been given. Rumors began circulating that Agahnim wanted King Titus dead. People spoke in whispers about horrific magical experiments taking place in Hyrule Castle’s Tower at night. Agahnim eventually took control of the minds of the soldiers with powerful magic. After multiple failed experiments to break the seal on the Sacred Realm, Agahnim realized that no living being would work other than the seven young maidens, who were descendants of the seven sages. Agahnim ordered the soldiers of Hyrule to seek out these seven young maidens and capture them. The young maidens are the subjects of a terrible ritual break the seal. Eventually only one maiden is left, Princess Zelda II. A new Link is awakened in the middle of a stormy night by a telepathic message from Princess Zelda II who informs him that she is being held in the dungeon of the castle by Agahnim and the mind-controlled army of Hyrule. Link is wide awake after receiving this alarming message and sees his uncle, Uncle Kian, with a sword and shield in hand. He orders Link to stay in bed and sets off for Hyrule Castle. Link ignores the words of his uncle and ventures out into the dark of the stormy night. He finds Hyrule completely locked down with soldiers everywhere. Link figures that his uncle must have gone to Hyrule Castle and manages to sneak into the stronghold. To his dismay, Link finds his uncle severely wounded. Uncle Kian, knowing that he won’t make it out alive, gives Link his equipment, telling Link that he entrusts him with the fate of Princess Zelda II. Link makes his way through the castle and manages to rescue Zelda in time before Agahnim could experiment on her. Link and Zelda escape from the castle through its sewer system and end up in the sanctuary which lies north of the castle. Arriving at the sanctuary, the priest tells Link that the only weapon which has the ability to defeat Agahnim would be the Master Sword. While in the legends, Ganon with only the Triforce of Power could be defeated with the Magical Sword, he cannot be defeated with it if he is in possession of the Ultimate Triforce. Knowing that the Magical Sword could not defeat evil if evil had consumed the Ultimate Triforce, the mortals in the ancient times following Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 were given a gift of power from the goddess Hylia which they infused into the Magical Sword, birthing the Master Sword. The priest sends Link to find the elder, Sahasrahla, who explains that not just anyone can wield the legendary blade and that a hero must appear from the descendants of the Hero of Legend. To prove himself worthy of wielding the Master Sword, dubbed the “Blade of Evil’s Bane”, Link would need to recover the three Pendants of Virtue that are scattered throughout the land of Hyrule. Link successfully obtains all of the pendants and withdraws the magical sword, now Master Sword, from its pedestal located deep in the Lost Woods. Shortly after obtaining the Master Sword Link is telepathically contacted by Zelda who warns that the sanctuary has been compromised. Link hurries to the sanctuary only to find that the mind-controlled soldiers had already captured Zelda and hauled her off to Hyrule Castle to be used by Agahnim in his seal breaking ritual. Link races to Hyrule Castle only to witness Agahnim sending Princess Zelda II to the Dark World in order to break the Sages’ Seal. Link fights Agahnim and defeats him but is dragged into the Dark World. Agahnim taunts Link stating that he is not yet defeated for good and disappears. Link is then contacted telepathically by Sahasrahla who informs him that the world he is currently in was once the Sacred Realm but had been transformed by Ganon’s evil desires to conquer the world, thus rendering it the Dark World. He orders Link to rescue the seven imprisoned maidens from the dungeons that are spread out across the lands of the Dark World. Upon freeing the young maidens, Link makes his way to Ganon’s Tower where the seven maidens use their magical powers to break the barrier that is sealing off the entrance to the tower. Link makes his way up the tower and defeats Agahnim for a second time, sealing his fate. As Agahnim perishes, the spirit of Ganon rises from the body, turns into a bat, and flies off to the Pyramid of Power. Link follows Ganon to the Pyramid of Power where the two face off for a final battle. With the Master Sword in hand and the Silver Arrows in his quiver, Link defeats Ganon. The Ultimate Triforce is recovered, and Link makes a wish with it, reverting the damaging effects of Ganon’s evil reign over Hyrule and the Sacred Realm, restoring both worlds to their former glory. The Sacred Realm once again becomes the Golden Land, and the player is free to explore it at their leisure. Princess Zelda II, Link, and the rest of Hyrule celebrate this victory. Link becomes the Hero of Realms. The content of the BS Zelda titles would be included as sub-challenges that are apart from the main game.
Zelda 4: The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening, Remake, and DX – The Great Sea is known.
After defeating evil king Ganon, saving both Hyrule and the Sacred Realm in the process, Link witnesses the restoration of peace. King Titus continues to watch over the well developing land of Hyrule along with his daughter Princess Zelda II. Link becomes restless during this time of peace and feels that he needs enlightenment of some kind. He sets sail on a journey and sails across the Great Sea in a small boat. Link works hard and completes his training in foreign countries. Looking to return home to Hyrule, he sets sail across the Great Sea once again. However, on his voyage back, the seas turn hostile, and the skies become bleak. Link does everything in his power to fight the storm of the ocean but eventually a bolt of lightning strikes his ship and Link is knocked unconscious. In a dream world, Link goes on a great adventure through Koholint Island which saves the Wind Fish from evil nightmares and awakens the Fish. As the dream world of Koholint fades away, Link wakes up in the real world along with the Wind Fish. The Wind Fish seeing Link stranded on some wooden boards in the midst of the Great Sea takes Link back to Hyrule as thanks for awakening him. The Hero of Realms returns home.
Zelda 5: The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time – The decline of Hyrule and the Ocarina of Time.
Several centuries passed since the time that the Hero of Realms ventured across the Great Sea to foreign lands to complete his training. King Titus, Princess Zelda II, and the Hero of Realms all pass away in this time. Hyrule slowly becomes more and more politically tense as each century continued to pass. Disagreements between the citizens and governing bodies of Hyrule eventually turn violent and the Hyrulean Civil War broke out. During this grave war a Hylian mother fled to the forbidden Kokiri Forest. The mother, Maliyah, was Link’s mother. She was gravely injured, and she entrusted her child to the Great Deku Tree. The Great Deku Tree, being the guardian spirit of the forest, sensed that Link was a child of destiny and took him into the forest. Once Link’s mother had passed away, Link was raised as a Kokiri within the forest. Eventually the then King of Hyrule, King Uriel, unified the land of Hyrule and brought an end to the civil war. In the Kokiri Forest all of the forest children have a fairy except for Link. Now the age of ten, he has been plagued by nightmares of Princess Zelda III fleeing from an evil man pursing her. One day the Great Deku Tree sends Navi to retrieve Link and bring the boy to him. To test Link’s courage, the Great Deku Tree tasks Link with breaking a curse that an evil man had cast upon him. Link ventures forth into the tree and completes this request but his efforts are in vain. The Great Deku Tree was already in the process of dying before Link undertook the mission. Before he passes away, the Great Deku Tree gives Link the Spiritual Stone of the forest, the Kokiri’s Emerald, and orders him to travel to Hyrule Castle to find Princess Zelda III. Link infiltrates Hyrule Castle via sneaking around the castle grounds. Eventually he finds himself in the castle courtyard where he meets the young Princess Zelda. Zelda tells Link of her dreams where she saw him come from the forest, accompanied by a fairy guide, and break through a veil of darkness. She also details her concerns about Ganondorf, a man clad in black who Zelda believes is symbolized by the dark clouds of her dreams. Even though Ganon was defeated in Zelda 3, Ganondorf was reincarnated and born into the Gerudo Tribe at this time. Zelda believes that Ganondorf has evil intentions to steal the Ultimate Triforce from the Sacred Realm. She states that in order for Ganondorf to gain access to the realm, he would need the three spiritual stones of Hyrule and the mystical Ocarina of Time. These three spiritual stones were crafted in the stead of the Pendants of Virtue and passed down through generations since the time that the Hero of Realms was alive. They served as a means to keep the Sacred Realm sealed from evil and to be rewards for trials designed to test the courage of a hero in case Hyrule needed one again. Zelda insists that Link obtain the other two Spiritual Stones so that they might have a chance at beating Ganondorf to the Ultimate Triforce and put an end to his plot before it can even begin. Link obtains the other two Spiritual Stones, the Goron’s Ruby, and the Zora’s Sapphire. As Link returns to Hyrule Castle, he witnesses his nightmares come to pass. Ganondorf attacks Hyrule Castle in order to try and steal the Ocarina of Time. Princess Zelda flees with her loyal attendant, Impa in order to keep the Ultimate Triforce from Ganondorf’s hands. Passing Link on the drawbridge of Hyrule Castle Town during her escape, Zelda throws the Ocarina of Time into the moat to given him the chance to enter the Sacred Realm and reach the Ultimate Triforce before Ganondorf does. Ganondorf purses Zelda across the drawbridge and knocks link out with dark magic when Link attempts to stand in his way. Ganondorf brushes off Link as being anything but a threat and continues to chase after Zelda. Link retrieves the Ocarina of Time from the moat and receives a telepathic message from Zelda which tells him to play the Song of Time in front of the Temple of Time’s altar to open the door of time. Link does so and enters a chamber that houses the Master Sword. Upon drawing the Master Sword from the pedestal, Link unlocks the gateway to the Sacred Realm. However even though the Master Sword has accepted Link as its wielder, it ends up trapping him in the Sacred Realm. Ganondorf follows Link into the Sacred Realm and claims the Ultimate Triforce. Seven years pass and Link awakens a seventeen-year-old in the Chamber of Sages where he is met by an old man. This old man is Rauru. He reveals himself to be one of the sages that presides over the Sacred Realm and one of the descendants of the seven sages. Rauru tells Link that only the Hero of Time can pull the Master Sword from its Pedestal. However due to the evolving nature of the Master Sword as eons have gone by, the Master Sword can only be now wielded by a hero who is of age to handle it. Since Link was too young to be the Hero of Time, his spirit was promptly sealed in the Sacred Realm for seven years so that he could wield the Master Sword. Rauru unravels grave news about Ganondorf obtaining the Ultimate Triforce and how the evil king had this time used its power to transform both the Sacred Realm and the land of Hyrule into the Twin Dark Worlds. Rauru implores Link to seek out the other descendants of the seven sages. Link goes back to the Temple of Time where he is greeted by a mysterious individual known as Sheik. Sheik informs Link about Ganondorf’s wicked conquest over the last seven years and explains the legend of the seven sages who were involved in the Imprisoning War of Zelda 3. Sheik encourages Link to find the other descendants of the seven sages in the temples that are scattered about throughout Hyrule. Link awakens champions the temples finds the other descendant, awakening them. After doing so Link goes back to the Temple of time where he finds Sheik once more.
Sheik explains that the Ultimate Triforce is made up of three independent Triforce. The three Triforce being: The Triforce of Power, the Triforce of Wisdom, and the Triforce of Courage. Sheiks explains that individually the Triforce are all powerful, giving their bearers enhanced abilities in each category, but when they are united together into the Ultimate Triforce, the one who possesses it is able to make wishes upon them (Note: Since the whole idea of the Triforce pieces aligning with its user’s intent on a scale of values is an idea not introduced until the release of Ocarina of Time this idea is scrapped entirely and will serve no purpose in this rewrite of Zelda lore). Sheik goes on to explain that Ganondorf has proceeded to conquer the Sacred Realm and all of Hyrule, making him the self-proclaimed King of the Twin Dark Worlds. However, sensing that the descendants of the wielders of the Triforce of Wisdom and the Triforce of Courage are still very much alive, Ganondorf seeks to hunt down these chosen ones which happen to be Link and Princess Zelda III. Sheik then reveals that Link is the designated wielder for the Triforce of Courage. Soon after Sheik discards their disguise, revealing themselves to be Princess Zelda. They inform Link that they are the seventh Sage and the designated wielder for the Triforce of Wisdom. Zelda explains to Link her seven year long plan and recites to him her lack of foresight in some of the actions that Ganondorf took which led to him obtaining the Ultimate Triforce. She tells Link that the only way now to defeat Ganondorf is with the Light Arrows and the Master Sword. She informs Link that he must travel to the Sky Temple to obtain the power to create Light Arrows. Unfortunately, due to Zelda revealing her true form, she also reveals herself to Ganondorf who promptly kidnaps her and takes her to his castle where Hyrule Castle once stood. Link is telepathically contacted by Rauru and urged to return to the Light Temple. This time Link must travel through the corrupted Sacred Realm (now the Evil Realm and one of the two dark worlds) and reach the Light Temple which is being safeguarded by magic from Ganondorf’s evil that has spread through the realm. Link safely enters the Light Temple and makes his way to the Chamber of Sages where Link passes on word about the Light Arrows. Upon hearing that Link is in search for the Sky Temple, Rauru and the other Sages point Link towards a gate in the Light Temple that connects to “The World Above” the lands of Hyrule. Arriving at The World Above, Link finds the Sky Temple and champions it, gathering the essence needed to craft Light Arrows. Link returns to the Light Temple where the Light Arrows are manufactured. Link sets forth from the Light Temple back into the corrupted Hyrule to reach Ganondorf’s Castle. Link breaks the barrier around Ganondorf’s Castle with the help of the sages and storms the castle. Eventually he comes face to face with Ganondorf and a battle ensues. Link defeats Ganondorf and all seems to be well. But Ganon’s Castle begins collapsing soon after. Link and Zelda rush to escape the crumbling complex. Upon safely getting out of harm’s way outside, Link and Zelda witness as Ganondorf revives as Ganon. Link and Zelda quickly devise a battle plan. Zelda will shoot the Light Arrows at Ganon while Link keeps him busy close up and delivers the blows. Link hands Zelda the Light Arrows and his Bow while he takes the Master Sword in both hands. They follow through with the plan and the King of Evil is put down for good and recover the Ultimate Triforce. Princess Zelda calls upon the other sages so that they may seal Ganondorf away in the Evil Realm, once the Sacred Realm. Before he can be sealed away, Ganon transforms back into Ganondorf and vows that he will return to unleash hell on the descendants of those who have defeated him. Princess Zelda and the sages then seal the gateway, imprisoning Ganondorf within the Sacred Realm, just as the Ancient Seven Sages had done. This marks the end of the Second Imprisoning War. Princess Zelda and Link then go to the Temple of Time with both the Master Sword and Ocarina of Time in hand. Rauru relieves the other sages of their duty since they have successfully sealed away Ganondorf. Zelda plays the Ocarina of Time as Link places the Master Sword in its pedestal, closing the last entrance to the Sacred Realm and completing the contained time loop. This reverses the entire motion of Hyrule, leaving Link, Princess Zelda, and the other sages with the opportunity to live out time in a natural fashion while a vengeful Ganondorf is trapped in the marred Sacred Realm. Unfortunately, Navi leaves Link before time is reversed. With Link, Princess Zelda, and the sages having knowledge of Ganondorf’s exploits and the war that unfolded, the world sees a recently unified Hyrule come together with Rauru to ensure that Ganondorf stays sealed away. The Hyrulean Civil War and the Second Imprisoning War are written into legend. Link is remembered as the Hero of time.
Zelda 6: The Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask – Parallel worlds are solidified.
With Hyrule’s security now ensured, Link sets off on an individual journey to go and find Navi. The story of Majora’s Mask plays out the exact same way as it does in the release version of Majora’s Mask with Link saving Termina from a terrible fate and meeting the Happy Mask Salesman from Hyrule. Princess Zelda III and the sages from Zelda 5 are still all alive along with King Uriel.
Zelda 7: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons – Neighboring countries come into view.
Link returns from saving Termina and accepts that Navi is gone. He manages to find his way out of the lost woods after receiving a spiritual call from Hyrule Castle. Upon arriving at Hyrule Castle Link is transported to either the land of Holodrum or Labrynna by the Ultimate Triforce to deal with Veran and General Onox, two agents of darkness, who have been enabled by Kotake and Koume. Both of these characters are from Ocarina of Time and are the surrogate mothers of Ganondorf. Link obtains the Rod of Seasons and the Harp of Ages in his quests across the two countries. Despite handling both Veran and General Onox, the Flame of Sorrow and the Flame of Destruction are already lit. A visiting Princess Zelda III is captured by Kotake and Koume who looks to use her in a ritual in a bid to bring Ganondorf from the Evil Realm, formerly the Sacred Realm. The two witches bring Zelda to the Room of Rites, hoping to use the princess as a means to light the final flame, the Flame of Despair. Thanks to Link’s efforts in saving both Din and Nayru, they both are able to teleport him to the Room of Rites. Link battles Kotake and Koume along with their transformation into Twinrova. Desperate to bring back Ganondorf from the Evil Realm, Kotake and Koume sacrifice themselves for the ritual. Ganondorf is brought through from the Evil Realm as Ganon and shows to be little more than a mindless beast since the ritual was not properly executed. Link defeats this relatively incomplete version of Ganon and Ganondorf remains trapped in the Evil Realm. Princess Zelda III and the Hero of Time return to Hyrule.
Zelda 8: The Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker – The Great Sea expands.
The Hero of Time, Princess Zelda III, and King Uriel all pass away as the centuries roll by. Hyrule continues to experience peace and Ganondorf is thought to be sealed away for good in the Evil Realm. However, Ganondorf managed to eventually break out of the Evil Realm, once the Sacred Realm, and started his wicked conquests once more. The people hoped that the Hero of Time talked about in legends would once again arise to save them, but no hero appeared. The King of Hyrule at the time, King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, attempted to stop Ganondorf but was unfortunately too weak. Ganondorf attacked Hyrule Castle, and this was known as the Second Siege of Hyrule. As Ganondorf was gaining ground in the Light World, the King, and the citizens of Hyrule prayed to the gods hoping for assistance. The goddesses answered their prayers by instructing those chosen to flee for the mountaintops before the land was flooded. Ganondorf and his armies were sealed along with the Light World in an enchanted air chamber at the bottom of the sea, with the Master Sword locking the flow of time within the chamber. The flooding of the Light World led to a grand expansion of the Great Sea. After the flooding, several more centuries went by, and memory of the Light World had vanished. But the legend of it lived on. A new Link who lives on Outset Island embarks on a journey across the now expanded Great Sea after his younger sister is kidnapped by a bird, known as the Helmaroc King. Link joins a group of pirates led by a girl named Tetra to find his younger sister, Aryll. Link and Tetra venture to the Forsaken Fortress where Link fails to fight the Helmaroc King and is thrown into the sea. It is at this point that Link meets a talking boat known as the King of Red Lions. The boat informs Link that the shadowy figure he witnessed at the Forsaken Fortress as Ganondorf. In the time leading up to the events of Wind Waker, Ganondorf had managed to get beyond the seal that was trapping him in the Light World that was deep in the sea below. The King of Red Lions informs Link of the Master Sword and tells him that it is the only key to defeating Ganondorf. In order to retrieve the Master Sword Link learns that he must gather the three Goddess Pearls. Link obtains the three Goddess Pearls and places them on their respective statues on the Triangle Islands which causes the Tower of the Gods to rise up from the ocean. Link scales the Tower of the Gods and defeats its guardian, Gohdan, who opens a portal to the roof of the Tower. He finds a giant bell on the roof and rings it, revealing a golden portal on the waves in front of the Tower. Link and the King enter it and travel beneath the waves to find a Castle suspended in time. Link explores the Castle and finds the Master Sword. He then pulls the Sword out of its Pedestal, which restores the flow of time to the Castle and resumes the Second Siege of Hyrule Castle. After defeating Ganondorf’s forces in the Castle, Link returns to the Forsaken Fortress where he defeats the Helmaroc King while Tetra and her Crew rescue Aryll. Link attempts to confront Ganondorf, but the Master Sword proves to be ineffective against him. Ganondorf reveals that in Link breaking the time seal and restoring the flow of time to the Castle beneath the Sea, his forces were now mobile. Since the seal that was trapping the Light World under the sea was weakening, Ganondorf was able to escape to the surface. Ganondorf proclaims that his forces will soon have the ability to do the same as he looks to reclaim the Light World and dominate the world of the Great Sea. Ganondorf overpowers Link and declares that the Master Sword's power is gone. Tetra intervenes, but Ganondorf overpowers her as well, and his Triforce of Power resonates. He realizes that Tetra is in fact Princess Zelda IV and recognizes Tetra's necklace as a fragment of the Triforce of Wisdom. Link and Tetra are rescued by their friends before Valoo, a dragon from Dragon Roost Island, burns Ganondorf’s tower in the Forsaken Fortress. The King of Red Lions takes Link and Tetra to Hyrule Castle and tells them that they are standing in the Kingdom of Hyrule which was flooded by the goddesses several centuries after the Hero of Time was alive. The King of Red Lions reveals himself to be Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule. The King explains that his spirit was guiding the two at the request of the gods. When Ganondorf had escaped the Sacred Realm, Daphnes fragmented the Triforce with the hopes that the King of Evil would not reclaim it. The king then fuses the missing shard of the Triforce of Wisdom that is in his possession with the fragment that is on Tetra’s necklace. This causes Tetra to transform into Princess Zelda. This reveal happens similar to when Sheik was shown to be a disguised Princess Zelda III. King Daphnes orders Zelda to stay in Hyrule and orders Link to travel back to the surface to recharge the Master Sword’s power and gather the shards of the Triforce of Courage so that it may be whole again.
King Daphnes spirit stays with Zelda in Hyrule, watching over her and the portal to the Light World / Hyrule under the water is sealed in order to minimize threats to her safety. Even though Ganondorf’s armies are trapped in the Light World, they do not know that Princess Zelda and King Daphnes are residing within the Castle and are fairly spread out through the sprawling mountain ranges and flatlands. And the forces of Ganondorf that were in the castle had all been defeated by Link when he pulled the Master Sword. When Link returns to the surface he learns that Ganondorf’s forces had managed to kill the Sages of Wind and Earth. To restore the power of the Master Sword, Makar and Medli awaken as the new Sages of Wind and Earth. With the powers and prayers of the new sages, the Master Sword is restored to its original form. He then finds the shards of the Triforce of Courage and returns to the Tower of the Gods with them. The Triforce piece then resonates with Link. It is then revealed that Link is a true hero and the Hero of Time reincarnated. The King of Red Lions the dubs Link the Hero of Winds. Link returns to the Light World where he discovers that Ganondorf has kidnapped Zelda and taken her to his tower known as Ganon’s Tower. This fortress was built in the ages before the Great Flood when Ganondorf had broken free from the Evil Realm and was waging war in the Light World. Unbeknownst to this Ganondorf, another incarnation of himself had built a tower during the time surrounding the First Imprisoning War. Link races to the tower and scales it. Ganondorf is waiting for him, sitting on a bed where Zelda is sleeping. Ganondorf is upset that people are living on the surface with little to achieve. He transforms into Puppet Ganon and battles Link. Link defeats him and he takes Zelda away. Ganondorf orders Link to follow and stand before him. He catches Link off guard and knocks him down. Proceeding to summon the pieces of the Triforce from Link, Zelda, and himself, he creates the Ultimate Triforce once more. Before Ganondorf can make a wish, he is accosted by Link and Zelda. A rough battle ensues and a highly weakened Ganondorf still attempts to reach out for the Triforce to make a wish. As he begins detailing his wish, Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule appears. He speaks to Ganondorf about his wishes and his intentions. He sympathizes with Ganondorf’s desire to return the world to normal but challenges him on his intentions and plans. Daphnes recites Ganondorf’s past efforts and parallels them with his current regrets. Ganondorf experiences intense psychological shock and does not move, staring at the ground. He then begins to slowly speak and realizes that everything he wanted was jeopardized by his drive for power which blinded him from everything else and begins questioning when he lost his way all those ages ago before the Hero of Time came to be. With his final breaths he wishes for the rays of the sun to expose Hyrule anew so that the people of the surface may once again know the kingdom and have a future beyond the waters that now imprison the globe. However, as Ganondorf takes his last few breathes and collapses, a spirit takes angrily hold of his body, and he is seemingly resurrected. Ganondorf’s eyes change color, and a dark power begins flowing forth from his corpse. Link and Zelda battle this evil spirit that has taken hold of Ganondorf’s corpse as the waters around the world begin to recede. Eventually Link and Zelda seemingly vanquish this great evil for good with the Master Sword and Light Arrows. They then lay Ganondorf’s corpse to rest as the Land of Hyrule is made dry once again. Daphnes appears one last time and instructs Link returns the Master Sword to the Temple of Time. Princess Zelda returns to being Tetra and Link is reunited with Aryll. Tetra re-unites with the Pirates and Link sees some of his friends. Both Link and Tetra, being the sea-goers that they are, set sail with their Crew back out into the once again normal sized Great Sea.
